About EMDP
The Exercise Movement & Dance Partnership (EMDP) is a National Governing Body and training provider for exercise, movement and dance. The EMDP is made up of three founder members, Fitness League (FL) the Keep Fit Association (KFA) and Medau Movement (MM), each leading fitness organisations that have been delivering exercise, movement and dance classes for more than 50 years. The founder members identified a need to create an alliance in order to sustain and grow in their field – and so the EMDP was formed.
Supported by its investment partner Sport England, EMDP spent two years getting various procedures and practices in place, prioritising increasing the quality and quantity of active, qualified teachers and delivering and growing the number of exercise, movement and dance inclusive participation opportunities for the British population. This included devising and implementing a new teacher training programme for each founder member to deliver in unison, called the Level 3 Certificate in Advance Fitness Instructing. EMDP also became involved in the Department of Health (DoH) consultation relating to a ‘Physical Activity Alliance’ and the DoH’s ‘Dance Champions Group.’
Today, EMDP is Sport England’s leading National Governing Body (NGB) for Exercise, Movement and Dance and is committed to getting more people enjoying good health and wellbeing through exercise, movement and dance. It aims to work with more organisations delivering similar styles of exercise and work with new organisations to offer a quality assurance to independent instructors, teacher or coaches.
