Exercise Movement and Dance (EMD) is key to achieving the universal target of increasing participation in sport and physical activities; offering diverse physical activity opportunities to those not attracted or retained by conventional sporting offers.
Through its national employee framework and utilization of associate organisation regional and local volunteer structures EMDP works towards sustaining and growing participation in EMD for all, often in association with County Sports Partnerships, Local Authorities and other dance/health/fitness related organisations.
County Sports Partnerships
County Sports Partnerships have always played a key role in helping National Governing Bodies such as EMDP to work with local sports and physical activity partners within their relevant counties. As a National Governing Body EMDP works with the 49 County Sports Partnerships to communicate and distribute national EMD updates to local and regional sport/health and physical activity networks.
Sportivate is a national programme that has been developed by Sport England. It captures the excitement of sport and the London 2012 Games to provide attractive and sustainable sporting opportunities for young adults and teenagers aged 14-25 yrs. With a particular focus on those who are not regularly participating in sport. This includes movement and dance.
EMDP will support an application for funding for teachers to deliver six to eight weeks of innovative coaching sessions free of charge to a target group within the 14-25 age bracket (this could be 18-24 or14-16 for example). When projects finish participants should be given the opportunity to either carry on their activity within existing class(es) or the new class may be kept running. Marketing representatives/ teams will also offer support to help promote the projects.
Sportivate runs until March 2015. If you are interested in applying or would like some advice/support with a movement and dance project please contact Emily for more information.
